According to Resolution 502/2024, dated June 19, issued by the Director of the Canary Islands Agency for Research, Innovation, and Information Society (ACIISI), the Canary Islands Living Lab Consortium—composed of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the University of La Laguna, and SPV Scala, S.L.—has been awarded funding under the Spain Living Lab project. This initiative is part of the Territorial Networks for Technological Specialization Program (RETECH) and is co-financed by the European Union-Next Generation EU at 75% for the 2024-2025 fiscal year. The project aims to implement the objectives outlined in the Canary Islands Living Lab project—Meta Labs for Intelligent Agents in Tourism—with case number 1/1/2024–0412093852.

This project will establish a network of 450 Living Labs (comprising 266 Meta Labs and 184 Training Labs) to generate tourist behavior data (both explicit and implicit, thanks to the metaverse). Based on these data, 15 highly disruptive AI proof-of-concept trials will be developed and subsequently applied in businesses and tourist destinations to enhance their competitiveness and sustainability.
